I actually do knit! If you didn’t mention that in the post, I probably wouldn’t have thought about it as an “area of expertise” haha. I also played ultimate frisbee in college, and know a lot of football terminology that often gets misused in books. I would offer up accounting as well (I studied that in college), but it’s been a very long time since I worked in that field and I don’t remember much anymore.
I'm a special education teacher, specializing in Deaf Ed and currently doing more work with Individuals with Developmental Disabilities. I write a Question and answer column about educational needs for a quarterly special ed magazine as well as feature articles.
I also have two now adult children who are deaf,, hearing g impaired and my husband was a sign language Interpretor.I am an Orthodox Jew, if anyone wants to "get it right" in the Deaf or Jewish world you are welcome to run it past me.
I have walked a crooked mile or two, so maybe it’s good for something. Grew up in an oil/ag town. Ballet dancer from age 7 to 33. Hair model for punk/avant-garde fashion shows in the late '70s–early '80s (free haircuts!). Bookkeeper for SF restaurant firm. Lawyer for the state legislature primarily working in education and school finance, back when you could tell a Republican committee member that their proposal was unconstitutional and they would usually drop it. Worked hard to recover from trauma due to incest. Traveled solo through Europe. Survived melanoma, figured life was too short, worked till I paid off loans, then quit lawyering. Catered a couple of weddings. Cleaned houses for some lovely people and some nut jobs. Hosted a weekly poetry radio show. Lived in a warehouse in East Oakland. Copyedited several community newspapers and reviewed art for an alternative weekly where Louis Theroux was an intern. Wrote grants for art nonprofits. Led a Cub Scout troop. Secured funding and organized a neighborhood tree planting. Founding member of interdisciplinary performing arts collaborative. Development director and event planner for inner-city Catholic school. Started and ran a chalk art festival that is still ongoing. Lead circulation clerk at busy public library. In-home consultant for a family window-covering business. Tended and distributed community supported agriculture shares. Gig-worked as a Task Rabbit. Provided online and telephone customer service and support for home-improvement installations for national big box store. Edited and/or co-wrote several alternative regional art history books. Have two sons and have managed to stay married 36 years. Have adopted/been adopted by several cats and dogs, enjoy lap swimming and yoga.
I have a master's in nursing and have worked in a lot of settings from nursing homes to prisons. I've been an avid knitter since childhood so I could answer questions about that craft and questions about what it's like to be a nurse, but I shy away from anything that might be taken as medical advice.
Masters degree in music composition (modern classical). Burned out my desire for music until 11 years later, returned to play jazz (the process of improvising is both similar to and not similar to pantsing). Designated accountant. Past winning online small stakes poker player. And 3rd generation Japanese-Canadian though I'm not the ideal sensitivity reader 'cause I'm not overly sensitive to it but I'd be interested to offer an opinion if useful.
Happy to answer questions about sleep disorders. I have night terrors that cause screaming and weird behaviors, sleep paralysis, on/off insomnia, sleep apnea, and have fall out of bed while sleeping.
Hi everyone! I am completing my MSc in Conservation Science with specific knowledge in Agroecology, a life of experience on a farm (raising cows, sheep, goats, pigs, etc., everything from birthing animals to milking animals to planting gardens to pasture management). I also have extensive horse knowledge, particularly in Western styles (think cowboys). Currently live in England and have a good grasp on the this landscape. Also have some knowledge of sewing, natural dyeing, and the history of beans!
Hi everyone! I'm a tech lawyer and have worked at many major tech companies. I can talk to you about tech, litigation, contracts, and cryptocurrencies, in addition to tech culture. I've also worked in professional sports, though not on the athletic side (in other words, I'm not a player, trainer, or coach). I have elementary school aged kids, so I can talk to you about that world if you don't have children or it's been a while. And, this is pretty niche but I am an avid papercrafter, so I know a lot about card making and art journaling.
I'm a family caregiver. Three elderly relatives across thirteen years and counting. My expertise: being mistaken by facility/hospital social workers, funeral home reps, rehab reps, etc. as one of their own. Even when I point out that I'm the family member, I strike them as someone they can talk with like they talk amongst themselves. OMGosh I just remembered a funeral home director and, believe me, people code switch like you wouldn't believe.
Hey all! I'm a podcast producer: I've created, developed, and produced multiple shows like Midwest Weird, Broads and Books, and Fuzzy Memories. I also created an audio fiction show called Wyrd Woman - and I'd love to help other writers explore the audio fiction space.
I'm late-diagnosed autistic (age 43!), so I have tons of rotating special interests. One is forever and always music, particularly David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, and Riot Grrrl. I create my own music as well, and would love to help other writers explore that route of creation.
I was in a youth circus and know how to unicycle, stilt-walk and tightrope walk (but I never learned to juggle). Health and safety was a little different back then and we used to sneak out on 6 ft stilts at break time to walk down the street and buy sweets from the corner shop.
I have an MA in Shakespeare (and a course about it on The Forever Workshop ahem).
And if you want to talk about autism or ADHD then I am your gal.
I am an actively licensed Family Nurse Practitioner who has been writing or editing copy for medical articles, etc, since 2007. I am also a patient advocate, into medical ethics, and a healthcare consultant/coach for lifestyle modification support. Finally, another area of unofficial expertise is alternative medicine and complementary medical options, having studied under a chinese medical doctor tutelege, attended herbal medicine courses by a well-known medicine woman, a traditional kahuna, a homeopathic MD, and others.
PS: I wrote a small medical fic series in the early 2000s that was picked up for publication but I decided not to follow through with it. I only share this so that if you are adding medicalese into a fiction book, story, I am familiar with this task too.
Currently writing a speculative/science fiction series.
My partner and I have a seasonal camp (cottage) rental business on a lake in Maine. It’s been in their family for generations. While I’m not a native Mainer, I definitely have an ear for authenticity when it comes to Maine and especially the hospitality business, and especially inland as opposed to coastal.
I have studied engineering for Bachelor’s and then MBA Finance and then pursued writing as a career which helped me do copywriting full time for 7 years. And now I’m do memoir writing, personal brand storytelling and other kinds of writing as a way to make sense of major life transitions and identity evolutions.
Oh also I’m 31 years old and navigating slow intentional living as a single woman after recovering from being a high-achiever almost all my life. It’s confusing yet so liberating. Happy to talk about spirituality, life transitions, career changes, dating in 30s and writing as a therapeutic practise.

This might be my favourite thread EVER.
