Too many to name them all! But I'll settle with the ones I've read multiple times and will surely read again soon:

Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler

The Queen's Gambit by Walter Tevis

Lonesome Dove has been on my TBR forever! This is my sign to get started, thanks.

(Also love any and all Octavia Butler!)

It's really good! There's also a great tv mini series made from it too.

Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. Just beautiful.

Hannah Christmas's avatar

I loved Gilead. I just got Home from the thrift store and I’m excited to read it!

Steve Grover's avatar

You'll love Home too, I bet. I didn't enjoy Lila and Jack as much, FWIW. Enjoy!

The Dreaming Tree by CJ Cherryh and The Count of Monte Christo are two of my all-time top favorites, always!

the BONE CLOCKS by David Mitchell. Loved CLOUD ATLAS, obviously, but the BONE CLOCKS was more intimate and the love story between Holly Sykes and Hugo Lamb eviscerated my heart.

Some of my favorite books are Lamb, the Gospel of Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore; The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd; The Four Winds by Kristen Hannah; and Anxious People by Fredrik Backman.

absolutely loved lamb. gave a copy to the priest at the local parish and he loved it too!

Karen, thanks for sharing. I love knowing that!

Agree with SO many of the above, what a fun group of folks!

My absolute favorite comfort re-reads are typically young adult! Maybe for the nostalgia?

- The Giver and Gathering Blue by Louis Lowry ✨ 🎨

- The House on Mango street by Sandra Cisneros 🥭

- Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery 🏡

I loved The Giver series! I’m so excited to read that with my kids in a few years. Also all of LM Montgomery’s books—yes. I just read the first in her Emily series and it was so good!

Possession by AS Byatt; Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood

Cortney Elizabeth's avatar

I LOVED Possession and can't remember the details of why--the epistolary pieces I remember!

Priscilla Bourgoine's avatar

Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro

Bobby Parrott's avatar

I love Rupert Spira's books on Advaita Vedanta, non-duality! Also, two all-time favorite SF books are Accelerando By Charles Stross and Rapture of the Nerds by Cory Doctorow. Go figure, I love the surreal and writing that challenges our definitions of so-called "reality" <3

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

I know! In a moment of distraction or maybe at the mercy of auto-suggest, the Good slipped in--but it is a gorgeous if sad book. (I mean, not the Sebald isn't, so there may be a theme here.)

Anna Purves's avatar

it's so insidious isnt' it, the world of autosuggest. It was a long time ago indeed that I read it, but its feel still lingers to something quite ineffable for me. How about youi?
