All the good shit in December & January PLUS win a lifetime subscription!
Hey folks,
The hibernation vibes may be strong, but we still have a whole month left of 2025 left — so we’ve made sure you’ve got everything you need to see you through the rest of the year (and kick off 2026 with your very best writing).
Here’s what we’ve got comin’ up…
⋆ December ⋆
If you do a lot of “I’ll get to that later”ing with Forever Workshop lessons — this month is for you!
Every week in December we’ll be sending you a very best of digest for each genre and one for literary careers on the whole.
We’ve pulled the bits you can’t miss from all lessons past and organized them into skimmable megasheets so you can grab what you need.
Whether you’re just getting started with The Forever Workshop, looking for some signposting to develop your skills in a particular area, or just fancy a lil’ pick ‘n’ mix of writing exercises, this masterclass-of-masterclasses has everything you could possibly wish for…

Taking it full circle, Ben is back by popular demand to take us swimming in the slushpile!
Through deep dives with different editors of popular lit mags, we’ll try to figure out what actually moves the needle with submissions other than bribery and blackmail.
Are you doing some dumbass thing you didn’t realize that’s getting you rejected? Maybe. Is there something you can do to stand out from the slush pile? Possibly. Could it all be a crapshoot of human shaped dice bumbling around a game board where everyone forgot the rules? We’ll find out.
Benjamin Davis spends most of his time co-running Chill Subs and writing The Sub Club Newsletter. He has poems in several journals including Moon City Review, Maudlin House, and Softblow, with other works in Booth, wigleaf, Matter Press, and Cease, Cows. His debut poetry collection, The King of FU (Nada Blank 2018), was such a smashing success it shocked the indie press who published it into an early grave. He is now working on his first six novels.

Don’t worry, it’s not a stupid chat bot or a price increase. The changes we’re making are really, genuinely awesome, and we think you’re gonna love ‘em.

I think my favourite workshop this year was the editing workshop with Steve Chang. It's pretty rare to see revision in practice (except with my own work, which is a little too close for comfort) and understanding the questions that drive the edits made the whole experience a lot more tangible (although the freaky flash workshop is a close contender- I love horror, and Kayla Kumari is a master of curation and prompt creation). In the coming year I think I'd like to see more of the editorial process, especially when it comes to editing a longer piece of work (though that may be difficult to squeeze into the format). I'd also be interested in workshops that focus on more practical aspects, such as self-publishing, pitching, marketing, etc.) as I have a huge backlog of rough drafts that I now need to do something with!
