I love this. I’m doing the 90 day novel right now and I’m on day 21 and soon we begin actually writing the novel. One of my biggest questions was what POV. This clarified so many of my questions 🙏
Is there a limit to the POV's in a novel? In my medical mystery trilogy, I have at least 6 separate characters, but the story moves along with each character. Three are even romantically involved.
I think anything *can* work, potentially. That does sound like a lot, though, and a tough job for a writer! I’d suggest asking yourself why this story has to be told this way, what is necessary about including all 6 perspectives. If you don’t really have an answer, maybe consider slimming it down? Sounds like an ambitious project! 😁
I wish you wrote a little more about second person. It's weird, yes, but... This whole post was written in second person. I see second person often used in "choose your own adventure" books.
You’re right, there’s a lot to be said about second person! I guess the teacher in me feels like, if a writer is still getting comfortable with POV, maybe wait on playing with 2nd person until one has a really good handle on POV and narrative control in general. That said, there are lots of interesting ways to use it. I love Bryan Washington’s short story “Arrivals,” for ex! https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022/07/11/arrivals

Is that too much?
