Hey there, writerfolk.

Are you in the submissions trenches, reeling from a rejection, avoiding an edit, staring down a competition deadline, or generally just wanting to get your writing out there in the big wide literary world?

Cool. Us too. Let’s do it together.

All Aboard the Accountability Train
(choo choo)

For the rest of July, we’re here to cheerlead you, (gently) kick your ass, remind you to submit your stuff, and keep each other accountable.

Because it’s one thing to idly browse lit mags and dream of publication, but it’s a whole other thing to actually submit your precious words.

So it really helps to have a submissions-buddy (or 23,000 of them)...

Here’s your 3-step plan to making it happen:

#1. What are you submitting?

A poem, a piece of flash fiction, a short story, an essay, a novel, memoir or non-fiction book?

Maybe you have a few things you want to send out. Gather your options and make a note of each piece’s word count and genre / style / vibe.

And then make sure your writing is as polished and ready as it can possibly be. Does it need one final edit? Some fresh eyes and feedback? Are you proud of it? (I mean, the nerves and imposter syndrome might fight you on this, but hopefully deep down your gut is saying: Yes! Let’s go!)

#2. Where are you submitting to?

Do you have any specific lit mags, competitions, genres or other publication opportunities in mind?

If so, great — go double check their guidelines and deadlines to make sure your chosen pieces are a good fit.

If you’re not sure where to send your work, go browse Chill Subs (don’t forget to filter by word count & genre to match your vibe).

Or if you’d rather someone else do the browsing for you, take a peek at the latest list of submission calls on

Sub Club
.

#3. When are you gonna do it?

Now comes the actual submitting part.

And a few ways we can help keep you accountable:

Not sure where/how to submit your writing?

Tell us about your piece, get suggestions on where to send it, ask for more advice on the submissions process, and generally let us reassure you that it’s all gonna be okay (promise).
